Our research is subjected to fundamental inorganic chemistry broadly in Coordination Chemistry. Design of different types of ligands on heterocyclic and nonheterocyclic backbone and their complexes of transition and nontransition metals followed by their structural characterization by spectroscopic techniques, exploration of redox and photoluminescence properties, investigation in many complexes of antimicrobial and anticancer properties and other properties like photoconductivity etc. From this research 47 research scholars awarded PhD Degree, 02 Scholars are going to be awarded and 12 students are working (out of which 08 are registered), many MSc students received research training, students selected by Academy of Sciences also get glimpses of research flavor. International students (from Ethiopia) also received research training. More than 450 original research articles are published and more than 150 conferences have been attended in the country and abroad.
Our research focuses on the following areas:

(i) The photochromism of arylazoimidazoles and their some of the metal complexes

(ii) Liquid crystal properties of long chain alkyl substituted azoimidazoles and their complexes

(iii) Organomercury and cyclopalladation reaction along with their reactivities

(iv) Azophenolato complexes and their redox properties

Currently, research is focused on:

(v) Metal Organic Framework / Coordination Polymers and their conductivity, sorption studies, CO2 reduction efficiency, Photochromism

(vi) Functionalization of known drugs (sulfamethoxazole and other sulfonamides) towards metal binding and for more efficient less toxic drug design

At present twelve scholars are working. Funding from different Govt agencies (DST, CSIR, AICTE, UGC, State Fund, Jadavpur University) are duly acknowledged.
